Introduction - Interpreting the Bible

General Guidelines

The following are some guidelines which hold true to understanding how to interpret the Holy Scriptures and make appropriate applications of their intended meaning. Use these to determine if any doctrine is soundly derived and can be considered in agreement or in harmony with all divine revelation, the Bible.

#1 Sufficiency:

Accept God’s revelation as true, sufficient, and complete. There is nothing “missing” or lacking that we need.

“According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:”
2 Peter 1:3
“For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.”
2 Peter 1:21
“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:”
2 Timothy 3:16

#2 Non-Contradiction:

No Cardinal Truths will ever contradict one another in the entirety of the content of the Bible.

“For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace…”
1 Cor. 14:33

#3 Reject Contradiction

All Contradictions of Cardinal Truths are to be rejected. Any “revelation” that is contradictory to what is plainly revealed, must be completely rejected, whether from Angel or alleged of “God.”

“But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.”
Gal. 1:8

#4 Truth Is Explicit

No Cardinal Truth would be from implicit deduction. All Cardinal Truth’s are explicitly stated. Every Cardinal Truth that is given to us is explicitly stated. It will not be implicitly derived from an ambigious passage. In other words, if it was important, it would have been stated by Jesus, God, or the apostles. If there is no explicit statement for any doctrine, it is to be heartedly rejected.

“Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.”
2 Peter 1:20

#5 Believe It As Written:

Take every Truth claim at face value. If it is clearly stated, believe it, don’t question, embrace it, and reject all contrary ideas as lies.

“let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written” Rom. 3:4

#6 Intrepet Scripture By Covenantel Context

The God of the Bible is a “God of Covenants.” The “Old Testament” is composed of several time periods and diverse Covenants which God had established during that period (Adamic, Edenic, Noaic, Mosaic, Abrahamic, etc.)(Gen. 6:18, 15:18, Ex. 2:24, 19:5, 24:7-8, 34:10, Judges 2:1, Nem. 1:5, Ps. 25:10, Rom. 9:4). The “New Testament” introduces a single Covenant, which began at that time (Rom.11:27; Heb.8:6-8,10,13;Heb.10:16,29,12:24;13:20), and will continue until the “end of the age (world or cosmos)” (Heb.13:20)

Closing Thoughts

It must be settled it in your mind, if God's word says it, it is true, regardless of any of man's experiences. When the scripture says "Whosoever, shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved" (Rom.10:9-13) Believe it, it does not matter what one may feel, God said it, it is true. He is not a liar (Num.23:19).  When he say's you are forgiven when you ask for forgiveness, it is true, it does not matter If we feel it or not. If we say, we are not forgiven when he has said we are, then we make him to be a liar. Do you understand that reasoning? If you question forgiveness when he says, "you ask for it, it's done" and you say "No I didn't feel it, I don't feel changed" then we make him a liar. Anyways, you see my point, God is the source of all truth, because He is truth, not our experience, which deceives us. Embracing God is embracing reality and truth, his truth then is the governing force in our lives above experience. When this priority is set, then experience aligns with truth.
